Welcome

Matt and Jess were introduced by a mutual friend on a fall evening on Bardstown Road in 2008. While standing on the sidewalk in Douglass Loop, Jess admired a DeWalt compund mitre saw in a nearby window. Matt began to talk about working his grandfather's hardware store, and Jess was hooked. But their love was cemented when they discovered their shared love of Kurt Vonnegut. After that, they were rarely apart. He introduced her to Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and The Jerk. She introduced him to scotch eggs and Delerium Tremens and Labyrinth.

Matt proposed in February 2012. Jess came home on a cold day to find the house lit only by strands of Christmas lights, decorated with beer growlers full of roses, and smelling like Italian food. Typewriters from the couple's vintage typewriter collection were positioned throughout the house, and rolled around the platen of each one was a piece of paper with a typed reason why he loved her. After she'd read each one, he emerged from the kitchen, dressed to the nines, before popping the famous question with the wooden ring she had admired. She barely let him get it out before shouting, "Yes!" "Good," he said, "because my meatballs are burning."

The wedding will take place at Mellwood Arts Center. It will be a casual affair loosley themed around a vintage 1940s feel, and will be officiated by an old freind. The bridal party (large though it is) is populated by close family and freinds we are thrilled and touched to have close to us on the big day. The most important thing to us is our history, remembering where we come from and all the people who got us to this moment. All the tables will be decorated with our vintage typewriters and books, and the room will be full of family pictures and heirlooms. Look closely: everything is significant to us, from the cake-topper used in Jess' grandparents wedding in 1952, to the invitations designed by Matt's brother.

The reception will take place in the same place as the wedding, so there's no need to stand on ceremony: as soon as the vows are over, start the party! The reception, too, honors what, and where, we come from. We'll have all local food (some even supplied from Jess' parents' farm), a variety of homemade pies from the families of the bride and groom, beer brewed by the happy couple just for the occasion, and (of course) Kentucky bourbon and a wide variety of other spirits. You are the guests of honor at this party, so we hope that you'll alll stay and enjoy the summer sunset and a cocktail or two (and don't forget to take a jar of jam or hot sauce made by Matt and Jess).
